Abstract
Mining operations must continue to lower their costs and improve productivity in the face of decreasing metal prices and strong competition globally. Integrated enterprise systems and operations can offer many benefits, some of which are:
- Substantially reduce the time needed to respond to new data acquired during the mining process
- Ensure long and short-term plan integrity through continuous refinements and detailing
- Substantially reduce redundant data entries and the constant need for reconciliation
- Vastly improve communication with everyone who can use shared data on a timely basis
- Provide a foundation for continuous improvement
- Store reliable historic data at the appropriate resolution
This paper will discuss the elements of shared common applications and the key points of integration. It will also review the need to increase interpersonal skills, broaden the IT systems view and align these with the business vision, knowledge and processes.
