Hatch providing EPCM for AltaGas wind project
The first Bear Mountain Wind Project turbine went on-line recently in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. Hatch was retained by AltaGas to provide balance-of-plant engineering, procurement and construction management services for the province’s first grid-connected wind farm.
The AltaGas Bear Mountain Wind Project is a 102-megawatt, $200-million development located 16 km southwest of Dawson Creek, British Columbia.
The wind farm is the world’s first to use Enercon three-megawatt turbines. Thirty four prototype 80 m tall wind turbine generators will be positioned along the top of the Bear Mountain ridge. The area is densely forested and utilized for forestry, but it also supports ranching, and leisure activities.
Hatch Calgary is undertaking the EPCM assignment. Enercon is providing the turbines, and associated foundations.
The wind farm is scheduled to be operational by November of this year.
