Hatch wins 2009 Water Reuse Project of the Year
The Western Corridor Recycled Water Project (Phases 2A and 2B) has been named the Water Reuse Project of the Year at the 2009 Global Water Awards.
The advanced water treatment plants at Luggage Point and Gibson Island represent the two final phases of the Western Corridor project, the largest water recycling scheme in Australia. The project was awarded by Global Water Intelligence for being the water-reuse project that represents the most significant achievement for the industry in 2008.
The Western Corridor Recycled Water Project involves the design and construction of three advanced water treatment (AWT) plants. The project also includes building a pipeline between six wastewater treatment plants in Brisbane and Ipswich, and three advanced water treatment plants for treatment before being transferred to end users.
Both plants use state-of-the-art technologies, including advanced oxidation and final stabilization, to improve the quality of secondary treated wastewater for reuse as potable water and industrial cooling water.
Construction of the 66,000 m3/d Luggage Point AWT plant was completed in October 2008. Hatch is a member of the Luggage Point Alliance, which was responsible for the design and construction of the Luggage Point AWT plant.
