Abstract
Existing non-linear loads such as cycloconverters, electric arc furnaces and dc drives generate harmonic currents. Power system equipment such as transmission and distribution solid state controllers, also known as "FACTS and Custom Power", are also a source of harmonic current generation. As a result of all the power electronic advancements, the interconnected load and transmission equipment must be designed to accommodate dynamically changing harmonic profiles. Relevant to these needs, this paper will present an overview of power system harmonics, typical harmonic problems, harmonic analysis aspects and mitigation techniques.
