Abstract
Increasingly strict guidelines governing the quality of electric power are changing the relationship between electric utilities, and customers employing large electric furnace loads. There is a growing requirement to engineer the supply of power for large electric arc furnace loads. Electric utilities are evaluating new guidelines for flicker emissions, load unbalance and harmonic current injection. Electric furnace users are evaluating increased arc power, arc efficiency improvements and reductions in operating costs. At the same time customers of electric utilities demand high quality, continuously available electric power.
