Abstract
The behavior of binary ores within semi- and fully autogenous (SAG/FAG) mills is investigated. A mathematical SAG/FAG model based on well accepted modeling techniques is denved. The ability of the model to quantify the complex behavior of a binary ore within the SAG/FAG environment is studied by fitting the model to pilot and laboratory experimental data, and then predicting the performance of various pilot plant tests in which the feed composition is varied. It is shown that current models describe this situation poody. Suggestions for improving this situation are made. It is contended that a significantly better understanding of the relative roles of "abrasion" and "impact" breakage, as well as improved quantitative test procedures which allow these properties to be easily measured in the laboratory, are required.
