Abstract
Hatch Technology’s Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Group is using an innovative and proprietary technology to determine refractory brick and castable thickness and quality in various metallurgical vessels. In addition to thickness and quality determination, the acousto ultrasonicecho (AU-E) technique is capable of detecting cracks, metal penetration and delaminations within refractory linings, as the metallurgical furnaces are in operation. Having the system calibrated by the build-up and accretion materials it is capable of estimating their thickness, both on the sidewalls and at the bottom of the furnace hearth.
