Abstract
The paper describes the ongoing innovation by Hatch with our smelting partners around the world to meet the challenges of copper smelting and converting in increasingly intensive processes. Recent developments and ongoing improvements have improved safety, extended furnace campaign lives and improved furnace integrity. Recent innovations applied in other smelting industries, directly applicable to the copper smelting industry, are also discussed.
Modern pyrometallurgical design for high intensity processes requires technical excellence in the thermal, structural, refractory and instrumentation and controls disciplines. Hatch has world-leading technologies in each of these areas presently at work in the copper smelting industry, and expertise in the integration of these technologies into both new and existing furnaces.
