Abstract
The Central African Copperbelt has been an important focus point for the international mining industry over the last decade. The Copperbelt, which extends from north-central Zambia into the southern portion of the Katanga province in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), is one of the world's greatest metallogenic regions containing an estimated 34% of the world's cobalt reserves and over 10% of the world's copper reserves. The steady improvement in political stability in the region, together with attractive ore grades and improvements in processing technology has brought about a renewed interest in the Copperbelt.
