Abstract
Developments in hydrometallurgy in the last decades are likely to shift the process of extraction of base metals from ores and concentrates using smelting towards processes that potentially provide economically viable metal production for smaller plant throughput capacity at lower capital and operating costs. This paper provides an overview of many of the relevant aspects to be considered in the design of robust and efficient solvent-extraction plants for the modern hydrometallurgical plant environment.
