Tahera Diamond Corporation’s Jericho diamond project is Canada’s third producing diamond mine treating 2,000 tpd
kimberlite and will produce 4.5 million carats over an eight-year mine life. The Jericho mine is located 450 km north of
Yellowknife and is only surface accessible by ice-road for 8 to 10 weeks each winter. The processing plant facilities comprise -400 mm kimberlite crushing, scrubber, sizing screen, high pressure grinding roll,
vertical lift pocket belt conveyors, 100-tph DMS, x-ray and grease recovery plant, degrit, deep bed thickener, water
reticulation, 42 m x 42 m building, heating and ventilation for -500C winter operation.
Hatch provided engineering, procurement, construction assistance and commissioning services for the Tahera Jericho
process plant and included:
- Phase 1 ─ 100-tph kimberlite processing plant basic engineering and capital cost estimate
- Phase 2 ─ Detailed engineering, equipment procurement, expediting, inspection services, site communication
systems design, fuel farm basic and detailed engineering and procurement, site plan coordination, and project capital
cost reporting
- Phase 3 ─ Process plant construction assistance and plant commissioning
The Jericho diamond mine was a fast-track project to meet the site access ice-road window in February and March 2005.
The project timeframe was:
- Basic engineering ─ May to July 2004
- Detailed engineering and procurement ─ August 2004 to March 2005
- Plant construction ─ April 2005 to January 2006
- Plant commissioned ─ February 2006
