Abstract
Signal Design and Installation on Toronto Transit Commission’s Sheppard Subway Line.
On November 22, 2002, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) opened the newly constructed
Sheppard Subway Line. The $934 million (CAN) line which consists of 13 km of signalled track
and five new stations. Three interlockings control movements over the line. Each interlocking is
controlled by a series of vital processors. The system includes 127 signals, 135 trainstops 19
switch machines, zone control panel, two local control panels, maintenance panels, extensive
modifications to an existing vital relay based interlocking and interfaces with a control office
(currently under test).
