The Fort Hills project is carried out by a joint venture between Petro-Canada, Teck Cominco and UTS Energy Corporation with Petro-Canada Oil Sands Inc. acting as the contract operator for the project. The site is approximately 90 km north of Fort McMurray. The project will expand the bitumen production plant to approximately 165 KBPCD of bitumen feed to the upgrader by 2011. A further phase will increase the production to 281 KBPCD in 2013.
Hatch completed front end engineering design (FEED) for Phase 1 of the Fort Hills project as well as a Class III estimate and stage gate review for the ore preparation plant (OPP). The OPP is one of nine ‘silos’, which form the bitumen production plant. It is designed to produce 165 KBPCD for the upgrader by 2011.
The Fort Hills ore preparation plant silo is in one of the largest remaining undeveloped oil sands leases in the Athabasca Region of Alberta, Canada.
