Abstract
“Complexity” and “parochial” are the words most often used to describe the products, markets and industry for tool steels. Few domestic steel industry analysts consider tool steel in international terms. However, internationally, tool steels are manufactured by a staggering 120 companies.. This large number of producers relative to the total world demand for tool steels suggests that there might be a number of logical arguments for industry consolidation both within and across borders.
